  • Description

You’ll meet your guide right at the Place des Vosges, a couple of minutes' walk from metro Chemin Vert (metro line 8), for a quick meet and greet. Your tablets will be distributed individually, and your guide will give you a quick rundown on how the app works.

Walking away from this gorgeous spot, the tour will start with an introduction to one Paris’ most important Synagogues, the “Synagogue des Tournelles”, built between 1867 - 1876, and classified as a historic monument since 1987.

You'll be guided and entertained by stories as you go, before getting back to the festive, bubbly area which is the Marais, and the Rue des Rosiers in particular, where you’ll find France’s oldest synagogue, the "Schule 17" (according to the Ashkenazi community), but also “l’As du Falafel”, with the City of Lights’ best falafels.

All through the tour, you’ll get to learn about the settlement of the Jewish community in Paris, in this area from the 19th century to nowadays (though the Jewish community has lived in the Rue des Rosiers for over 800 years).

Through the use of a complimentary tablet which will be coordinated by your guide to share fascinating pictures, videos, and an interactive map, you can expect a unique interactive experience!

After a quick stop to the Holocaust Memorial for a quick contemplative moment, your guide will show you how the Marais has been influenced by Jewish culture, and how it also evolved so much economically, also in great part thanks to the booming Jewish businesses of the time, which have in part survived throughout the 20th century.

Your guide will end the tour near metro St Paul, with a history of the Dreyfus court trial, why it had such an impact back then and still today, and how the idea of a National Jewish Homeland was first born, here, in Paris.
