  • Description

With your skip the line ticket, head straight to the meeting point facing the catacombs' entrance - the Café du Rendez-vous - where you'll meet your host.

After a brief but fascinating introduction to Paris's undergrounds, it'll be time to skip the line and enter the old quarries.

Equipped with an optional but strongly recommended audio-guide, learn about the impressive restoration works of these tunnels which were collapsing back in the 18th century, when Louis XV decided to appoint his Royal Architect to consolidate and repair said quarries in order to save Paris from sinking into the ground.

Walk through History as you’ll discover relics dating from before the French Revolution; learn about the revolutionary calendar, and travel even further through time as you’ll learn about the formation of limestone in the Parisian soils, before entering the famous ossuary, originally built to transfer the remains of almost six million Parisians from the overflowing city’s cemeteries.

Walk through these peaceful hallowed grounds in silence and take in the haunting, yet poetic surroundings, full of tombs, post-revolution poetry, and many, many skulls.

And among them, one in particular: Louis XVI’s skull is said to lie there too...
