  • Description

The Basilica was built in the 9th century and is the main religious center of the city. Its remarkable architecture was inspired by several Mediterranean trends, including white marble from the Middle East as well as some elements of Greek and Byzantine origin. The Basilica’s nickname, Chiesa d'Oro (The Golden Church), refers to the gold used in the design and decoration of this holy place.

The upper part of the building is covered with magnificent mosaics covering a combined an area of almost 8,000 square meters.  With your skip-the-line ticket, there’ll be no waiting around to enter inside. You’ll get to spend more time inside enjoying one of the finest existing examples of Italian-Byzantine architecture.

Of course, the city is out of this world, but that doesn't mean one should pass by St Mark's Basilica without visiting it. We were very happy to have paid a bit more to skip the lines, as even in this season, a lot of people were waiting.
